Pinhook Q/T/POC forward SOUND SCHOOL DAY TWO

The Pinhook is excited to offer something we’ve been wanting to do for a LONG time now – a sliding scale basic sound school for Queer and BIPOC folks!  These classes will be led by Chuck – one of our (and many other venue’s / festival’s) amazing queer sound people.  It will be a two part series and you are welcome to come to one or both!  We’re still working on curriculum / the deets but below a rough sketch of topics we’ll cover.  And these sessions are going to be PHK sound system focused but can be translated to other small / mid sized venues.  Each day will have opportunities to get some hands on experience and ask questions.  And we hope at the end of these two sessions you’ll feel more confident running very basic sound and exploring being an audio tech further!    *These classes are sliding scale.  Space is limited so please commit to one or both sessions separately and chose the “ticket price” that best suits your ability.  And as always – email us @ pinhookbooking (at) gmail (dot) com with questions and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.  <3    Monday 12.9 @ 6pm What is a club sound system?  What are different mics for? How do I coil cables? (your sound tech friends will love you for knowing this one) What are the basics of frequency notching / compressing / effecting sound?    Monday 12.16 @ 6pm  What is a stage plot / tech rider?  How do I set up basic sound for a band?  How do I engage with performers on a legit / friendly / safe / professional level?  How do I get performers the best monitor mix?

We’ll also be raising money to add to those women’s commisary funds. Belki Sibe Screening & Q&A

TGC is honored to announce that we will be hosting a special event on Sunday, January 19th at the Pinhook, in downtown Durham. The screening will be followed by a remote Q&A session with the filmmaker! 5-8pm.  Belki Sibe (2023) is a volunteer soldier’s film. It unfolds an 18 month journey through war and revolution, in Rojava Kurdistan NE Syria, during the advance and victory of the Syrian Democratic Forces against ISIS, including the story of the International Freedom Battalion, where the director was primarily deployed. It depicts the military life and battles on the front-lines, as well as the civil life at the rear and the social transformation attempted by the Autonomous Administration. In both fields, the role of women’s liberation and empowerment is prominent. The film follows a timeline from July 2016 (battle of Manbij) until the end of 2017 (liberation of Raqqa and demise of the Islamic Chaliphate), but also includes flash forward updates from late 2021, at the end of each chapter.
