What began as a group of high school friends jamming in various North Carolina
basements has shaped itself into a fully functioning seven-piece reggae-jam-rock
collective. Known for their high-energy, one-of-a-kind live shows, The Hourglass Kids
draw on the raw power of a full horn section and the unique voices of four vocalists, all
anchored by a booming and flowing rhythm section. Their music spans an eclectic mix of
styles, blending roots reggae, psychedelic jam, hip-hop, funk, and jazz-rock.
Since their inception, The Hourglass Kids have shared the stage with an
impressive roster of artists, bridging the worlds of American-reggae and psychedelic jam
music. Their naturally bouncy style has seen them perform alongside reggae
powerhouses like The Elovaters, Fortunate Youth, Tropidelic, Sensi Trails, The Wheeland
Brothers, Common Kings, and Kash’d Out. At the same time, their improvisational flair
and affinity for extended instrumental sections have made them a natural fit to share
stages with celebrated jam acts such as Papadosio, Big Something, Cosmic Collective,
Dr, Bacon, Baked Shrimp and others. This blend of influences highlights the band’s
ability to connect with a wide range of audiences while staying true to their eclectic
sound.

funk, indie rock, and dreampop, with sprinkles of
reggae and neo-soul, so is their sound. They’ve
settled on “fusion.” Call it what you like.

sound. They released their debut EP, The World
Stood Still, in November 2025.
As a lyricist and melodic writer, Emerson Bruno evokes a sentimental and familiar quality that captivates listeners.
